Introducing our Love in the Air Promotion Winners
Congratualations and Happy Anniversary Ted and Peggy Torren!

    “Divine [Seat] Intervention”
I was originally seated in Seat 22C and the morning of the flight, I upgraded to Economy Plus and changed to Seat 7E. My husband Ted was seated in the exit row and just prior to boarding, changed his seat to 7D. We often think it was some divine intervention.

Our Love in the Air Promotion Finalist

Thank you to all the lovely couples who submitted your #unitedinlove stories. We have selected 10 finalists from hundreds of entries. Enjoy excepts from their charming stories. The stories are listed no particular order.

     “A Love Upgrade”
We started chatting… our football teams were squaring off for a battle during our flight. Chemistry was evident. …I asked, “Are you flying in business or coach?” to which she replied, “Coach”. Nervous, never having done something like this before… I asked our gate agent if there was room in business on the flight: serendipitously, seat 9B was empty.
I asked if I could sponsor her upgrade, and was delighted with the response.

    “Love will take off”
Literally minutes before the flight took off, a very handsome man boarded and walks down the aisle. Natalie thought, "Hmmm, he's handsome...I hope he doesn't sit here, I'm not up for conversation." Sure enough in row 7, Steven sat in seat 7a and Natalie in 7b. It didn’t take long before they started chatting and quickly found out they had so much in common…Steven told a business partner after he got off the flight,
“I think I just met my next wife”.

    Flight 6-2-8 Save the Date
He was returning to DC from a conference, and I was on my way back east after a friend's wedding celebration. We saw each other across the waiting area at Gate B14, and bumped into each other on line to board. He graciously let me go first, and we began to talk. It turned out that we had assigned seats next to each other what are the chances. We didn’t stop talking until we landed in DCA! We dated long distance for 4 years.

    "Seatac Serendipity”
On that serendipitous day a handsome stranger struck up a witty conversation with me while we were waiting to board our mutual flight. There was an instant spark. We reunited in baggage claim at our final destination and before our luggage could even arrive we were exchanging phone numbers. The handsome airport stranger, David, called to ask me out a few days later…

    "Sprinting Towards Love at HKG”
Finding my way to my seat, sweating and thankful that I made it onboard, a hand reached out offering a tissue as soon as I sat down, and I looked up, thinking it was a flight attendant, only to find the same woman - across the aisle - with a grin on her face. We began chatting and the flight attendant asked my seatmate if he would mind swapping seats with the lady and said to us, "Enjoy the flight." It was all too perfect, truly third time's a charm.

    "Paradise Found”
As I was waiting for my flight, I noticed "him" again. I pretended to be occupied with my phone but something inside of me said that this is now or never. My legs stood me up, my body walked towards his direction and before I knew it I was sitting right next to him asking how his vacation went. The hours getting to know one another just flew by. During the flight we gleamed numerous wide smiles to each other, anxious to land.

    “You’re in my Seat”
So I finally boarded the plane and found my seat – unbelievable – she’s sitting in my seat! What are the odds? I politely informed her that she was in my seat and I’d appreciate it if she moved over! She refused, telling me she was in the correct seat. Only then did I notice that the plane configuration was 2-5-2, so my seat – 10F was one row in; the aisle seat was 10 G! So I took my seat…next to her!

“A United Club and Cabana Connection”
He didn't initially come up to me, but when it was finally time to board, we talked on the jet way (mainly about how we got our money's worth for our club membership during the delay) and then ironically we were sitting in the same row in first class. We clicked and talked the whole flight, but upon landing went our separate ways… Two days later, while I was poolside I hear "Oh My God...United Flight 536 from Denver!"

    "Student Standbys”
I had a few books with me, and he asked if he could borrow my George Berkeley philosophy book during the flight as he'd forgotten his. We chatted a few minutes, exchanging pleasantries, and then dug into our reading. He departed in Cleveland, and I went on to Minneapolis to celebrate Thanksgiving. In May, 1970, a young man came to my dorm at school and asked for me (this was at a time when our visitors were announced). I didn't recognize the name, but when I saw him, I knew I had seen him before.
