IMPORTANT: This article was originally published in September 2011. The account-linking period has ended. You can no longer link your accounts.
As we continue to work toward fully integrating United and Continental, we're building new technology to provide our expanded loyalty program membership base with new program features.
Late in the first quarter of 2012, when we move to a single technology platform, we will change your current MileagePlus® number to an eight-character alphanumeric account number.
If you have a OnePass® account, link it to your MileagePlus account. Because your OnePass number already has eight characters, it will become your MileagePlus number at the time of our system conversion.
If you don't have a OnePass account, you don't need to do anything. We'll assign your new MileagePlus account number late in the first quarter of 2012.
In January we'll provide more details about this change and how it will affect your account. We understand that a change like this takes some adjustment, and we'll guide you through the process to make it seamless and easy for you.
In the meantime, you can manage your MileagePlus account like you always have. Log in to united.com, use miles, transfer miles, update your profile, request upgrades and add your account number when booking flights. In other words, it's business as usual with your MileagePlus account. Nothing changes until our system conversion late in the first quarter of 2012.
