UPDATED (originally posted on Feb 20, 2012
You might have noticed changes to the way you set up and receive flight status messages on united.com. On March 3, when we moved to a single passenger service system, we combined some of our services.
Here are the two major changes you should know about:
- United EasyUpdate® is no longer offered.
- Flight Status Notifications, the new name for the former TripAlert, has taken the place of EasyUpdate.
If you're a MileagePlus® member, you can take advantage of the Flight Status Notification service on united.com. Don't waste time wondering whether there have been any changes to your flight's departure or arrival time before you get to the airport. This service keeps you informed of any changes, so you can adjust your travel plan accordingly. Also, with United's check-in reminders, you can check in for your flight from home, work or on the road and save yourself valuable time at the airport.
Choose our flight reminders and get notified by email or text message on an hourly basis of your flight's departure or arrival time.
Here are the types of notification options, organized by the different message services we offer.
Flight Status Notification messages and settings
Customer preference settings
Important: To take advantage of our Flight Status Notifcation service, make sure that your email address and phone contact information is up to date in the Profile section on your MileagePlus My Account page.
If you were already set up to receive messages through United EasyUpdate, Continental TripAlert or both, the following scenarios are now in place:
If you set up alerts through both United EasyUpdate and Continental TripAlert, as of March 3, the TripAlert preferences are used for your Flight Status Notification messages.
If you had both MileagePlus and OnePass® accounts, you linked the two accounts through the MileagePlus website (by January 28, 2012) and you'd only set up alerts through EasyUpdate, your alerts have been saved as Flight Status Notifications.
Note: Please be sure to check your settings.
If you set up alerts through TripAlert only, then you can continue to manage these using our Flight Status Notification service.
If you didn't set up any alerts through United EasyUpdate or Continental TripAlert, then we recommend that you sign up for our Flight Status Notification service.
For each MileagePlus number, you can set only one period as your designated Quiet Time — a period during which you won’t be disturbed by an automated flight update phone call.
Notifications on the day of or the day before travel
As part of our Flight Status Notification service, you're able to choose to be notified either on the day of or one day prior to your flight.
Flight arrival reminders - We no longer offer subscriptions for flight arrival reminders. This includes both on-time and delayed alerts.
From March 3 forward, one-time notifications are referred to as flight reminders.
Messages sent to all customers
We send some messages to all of our customers as a courtesy. You'll receive these messages by email if you provide a valid email address when you make your initial flight reservation or by phone if no email address is available. These messages include:
Note: You do not have the option to unsubscribe from these courtesy messages.
We hope you'll take advantage of our Flight Status Notification service and flight reminders to keep yourself up to date on your flight's departure and arrival times.
