Rhonda Globe, this year’s United Adventure Bear, began her trek in November with visits to children in Minneapolis and Amsterdam. United employees from around the world are delivering more than 2,500 Adventure Bears in about 40 hospitals and communities worldwide.
Adventure Bear fundraising
United introduced the Adventure Bear program six years ago to make a positive difference in communities we serve by bringing smiles to children in need. We unveil a newly named, limited edition GUND® teddy bear each year to visit children experiencing health struggles or economic hardship in communities around the world. The 2013 campaign, which encouraged employees and customers to make a $50 “Give a Bear, Get a Bear” contribution, raised more than $30,000 for our partner organizations and charitable organizations within our hub markets.
Mark Anderson, our Senior Vice President of Corporate and Government Affairs summed up the gratitude we feel toward each and every donor, “We are overwhelmed by the response from our generous customers and co-workers who participate in this beloved bear program, Thank you.”
Around the world deliveries
Employees delivering the Adventure Bears come from teams across all aspects of the
airline, including customer service representatives, ramp and maintenance workers, flight attendants and pilots. An additional 10,000 bears will be distributed through partner organizations like Make-A-Wish and The American Cancer Society and through other United events like Fantasy Flights.
Rhonda Globe will reach children all across the world including Dublin, London, Panama City, Madrid, Beijing, China; Osaka, Japan; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Lisbon, Portugal; Kolonia Pohnpei, Micronesia; Bogota, Colombia; Villahermosa and Torreon, Mexico and Lima, Peru. Many of these locations are taking advantage of our Adventure Bear local delivery program for the first time.
