The Sochi 2014 Olympic
Winter Games will mark the 34th year United Airlines has flown U.S. Olympians,
Paralympians, their gear, and their dreams all around the world. We’re marking
this milestone at Road to Sochi events
across the country, cheering on Team USA.
Our next stop is Los
Angeles, CA on February 7, where you can enjoy sport demonstrations, fan experiences,
Team USA giveaways and celebrate the opening ceremonies with other fans.
Our Team USA partnership by the numbers
34 years of flying Team USA
adds up to 19 Olympic Games, not to mention all the competitions, trials,
qualifying events both at home and abroad and trips to and from 15 official
Olympic training centers in 13 U.S. states.
Organizing travel for
all those athletes and their gear takes careful planning and coordination. The
United Olympic Reservation desk exists year-round just to accommodate Olympians
and all their equipment. A typical athlete will bring 30 pair of skis to the
Games. Add to that Paralympians who, according to United Olympic Desk
Reservation Agent Cassie Preston, “have their personal wheelchairs and
sometimes they have 2 sport wheelchairs”. Heidi
Jo Duce, Team USA Paralympic Snowboarder says “there's no way we could handle
all of our equipment and gear without the support of United.”
