What is #HerArtHere

We want to put women's art in the sky, for the whole country to look up to. While 51 percent of today's artists are women, less than 13 percent of art on display in museums is by female artists. This huge disparity in representation led us to commit to carrying #HerArtHere on two massive, traveling canvases — Boeing 757s.

Meet Shantell

Renowned artist and MileagePlus® member Shantell Martin will provide guidance and mentorship for the two winners. In the video below, Shantell explains what being a part of this contest means to her and gives a few tips on creating your designs.

About Shantell Martin

Born and raised in London, Martin actually got her start in Japan, partnering with DJs and other musicians to enhance their performances with the graphic punch of live-drawn, digitally projected images. Now based in New York, Martin continues to pull viewers into her creative process, saying “I draw. I draw on everything.” Today, she does just that by working both independently and collectively. Her art graces everything from a performance hall for the New York City Ballet to a collaboration with Pulitzer Prize-winning performance artist Kendrick Lamar. Martin also lends her talents to many schools and charities with whimsical drawings and storytelling.

Outside her own work, Martin is dedicated to making sure other women artists are seen as well. She’s constantly promoting great works of art by those with less recognition. This desire to use her platform to stimulate understanding of both one’s self and the inclusion of others is illustrative of the same values and representation that we seek to achieve with #HerArtHere.

Meet Bebe

We’re proud to have more women pilots than any other airline, including Bebe O’Neil, who flies with us as a system chief pilot. As a leader in a historically male-dominated role, Bebe understands the importance of visibility and opportunity for women across all fields — and across the country. Watch the video to hear from Bebe about what it’s like to practice her art, what it’s like to fly an aircraft and what an honor it would be to fly an aircraft featuring your design.

Why #HerArtHere matters

Have questions?

Ahead of Women's History Month starting this Friday, March 1, we're proud to launch #HerArtHere, a first-of-its-kind contest designed to find and uplift underrepresented women artists by providing a chance to paint a canvas like no other — a Boeing 757. The designs should visually represent the vibe and spirit of two of our key regions: California and New York/New Jersey.
