103 Floors, By Hand - United Hub

103 floors, by hand

By Ryan Hood

If the sky is the limit, that's where Brody Roybal, 50 United employees and 2,000 others made it this past weekend during the tenth annual SkyRise Chicago event.

The task? Climb 103 floors of Willis Tower, home to United's Chicago Corporate Center, raising money for the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Roybal, a two-time Paralympic gold medalist with the US Sled Hockey team, joined and inspired United employees in their climb to the top. Roybal was born without femurs in either leg, so he took the 103 floors by hand. And did so in an astonishing 71 minutes.

"I like to prove to myself that I can do things that able-bodied people do," Roybal said.

One of United's charitable partners, the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab provides world-class rehabilitation care to thousands of patients for traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, stroke and cancer recovery and more. The funds raised through SkyRise Chicago directly support advances in patient care and cutting-edge research.

In the inaugural year, MileagePlus members donated over 70 million miles, with United matching over 20 million miles, to 51 organizations. These miles have allowed for these organizations to do important, life-changing, life-saving work in the communities we serve around the globe.
