Mexico 50: The celebracion continues

By The Hub team

Our CEO, Oscar Munoz, wrapped up his tour of Mexico City this week, recognizing the 50th anniversary of our service from the U.S. to Mexico, by serving as the keynote speaker at a gala on February 16. In his remarks, given to more than 300 customers, travel agents, local and national government officials and employees, Oscar spoke of how proud he was to return to Mexico to celebrate such a historic milestone.

"Every day we are helping unite the world by connecting people to the moments that matter most. And for fifty years, United Airlines has been proudly strengthening the bonds between Mexico and the world — playing a leading role in cultivating and sustaining cultural, historical, commercial and family ties," said Oscar.

From there Oscar talked about continuing our commitment to Mexico in the years to come, touching on the importance of maintaining those economic, cultural, educational and familial ties between our two nations; he also thanked employees and customers.

"I want to thank our customers in Mexico for their loyalty over the past half century and our nearly 1,000 employees across Mexico for their passion and dedication to make United the best airline in the world for everyone we serve."

It was a memorable and meaningful way to cap off a week of celebration around the 50th anniversary and, at the end of the night, guests were treated to a rendition of "Rhapsody in Blue," with a Mexican twist. A video of that stirring performance can be seen on Twitter here.

This week, we were honored to become the first U.S. airline to join the UNICEF Humanitarian Airfreight Initiative to combat the COVID-19 pandemic by transporting the vaccine and other critically needed supplies to underserved areas of the globe.

"We are committed to helping the global community in any way we can, and we all must work together to do our part to bring this health and humanitarian crisis to an end," said Director of Cargo Specialty Products Manu Jacobs.

We will leverage our expertise to transport these critical pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments around the world safely, efficiently and expediently. We are proud to partner with the United Nations to support this global effort and provide equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.
