United & BP: Introducing the only joint reward program of its kind

By The Hub team, March 07, 2018

Beginning today, we're teaming up with BP to offer BP Driver Rewards and United MileagePlus® members the option of earning and using miles on fuel purchases at participating BP U.S. retail locations. This is the only program in the U.S. that allows customers the ability to earn and use U.S. airline miles at the pump for gasoline purchases.

When BP Driver Rewards and MileagePlus members sign up for this new program, they can earn 200 bonus award miles after joining and making their first fuel purchase with a linked debit or credit card.* Members can multiply their earnings through the following options:

  • One award mile for every gallon of fuel purchased*
  • Two award miles for every gallon of fuel purchased with a linked debit or credit card**
  • Three award miles for every gallon of premium-grade fuel purchased with a linked debit or credit card**

In addition, BP Driver Rewards and MileagePlus members will be able to use 60 award miles per gallon to save 50 cents per gallon with a linked debit or credit card.***

"We are thrilled to work with United Airlines to launch this exciting partnership," said Rick Altizer, senior vice president of sales and marketing at BP. "We know that consumers want more choices when it comes to how they are rewarded by BP, and this program makes it even easier for our customers to save money on fuel purchases."

"This partnership also builds on BP's strategy to develop high-quality, differentiated fuel and convenience offers to provide consumers with choices that help simplify their busy lifestyles," Altizer said.

"This unique program demonstrates our commitment to providing MileagePlus members with an industry-leading experience," said Luc Bondar, president of MileagePlus Holdings and vice president of loyalty at United Airlines. "We want our members to have a variety of ways to earn and use miles, and they will be able to conveniently do so for fuel purchases with BP."

United, Honeywell Invest in New Clean Tech Venture from Alder Fuels, Powering Biggest Sustainable Fuel Agreement in Aviation History

United agrees to purchase 1.5 billion gallons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) over 20 years - which is one and a half times the size of the rest of the world's airlines' publicly announced SAF commitments combined

CHICAGO and DES PLAINES, Ill., Sept. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- United and Honeywell today announced a joint multimillion-dollar investment in Alder Fuels – a cleantech company that is pioneering first-of-its-kind technologies for producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at scale by converting abundant biomass, such as forest and crop waste, into sustainable low-carbon, drop-in replacement crude oil that can be used to produce aviation fuel. When used together across the fuel lifecycle, the Alder technologies, coupled with Honeywell's Ecofining™ process, could have the ability to produce a carbon-negative fuel at spec with today's jet fuel. The goal of the technologies is to produce fuel that is a 100% drop-in replacement for petroleum jet fuel.
