United is the largest corporate sponsor of this new home, which will provide a "home away from home" for up to 20 families of eligible veterans and military at no cost, allowing them to be close to their loved one during the hospitalization for an injury, illness or disease.

"Every day, our military men and women risk their lives, and many of these heroes spend years getting medical treatment for the sacrifices they've made protecting our country," said Peggy, whose son – a U.S. Marine – was killed in Iraq. "On behalf of the thousands of military men and women that have come to call United home, I'd like to applaud Fisher House for their dedication to taking some of the stress away from our veterans as they go through medical treatments."

The Houston Fisher House will not only create an instant community for its residents, united by their common mission of supporting a sick or injured loved one, but it will also provide each individual with a secure and private refuge to rest and recharge after a long day at the hospital.

The 20-suite, 16,800 sq.-ft. comfort home joins 71 other Fisher Houses operating in the U.S. and Europe. Each bedroom suite comes equipped with a private, handicapped-accessible bathroom, and common areas that include a spacious kitchen, large communal living, dining and family rooms, laundry room and patio.

United Airlines is a longtime supporter of the Fisher House program – participating in its Hero Miles program, as well as providing financial support to help build this Fisher House.

"We are grateful for our relationship with United Airlines," said Mr. Fisher. "Their support to the military and veterans has only increased throughout our years of partnering together. In addition to supporting our Hero Miles programs and supporting Warrior Games, they are now assisting in the construction of our newest Fisher House – one that will serve veterans for decades to come."

Connecting vaccines to the world: United responds to mass distribution effort

December 22, 2020

On November 27, United Airlines became the first commercial airline to safely deliver the first batch of Pfizer and BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine into the U.S. thanks to a coordinated effort between United's cargo, safety, technical operations, flight operations, regulatory and legal teams.

Now as the entire shipping and logistics industry bands together to widely distribute vaccines, United is leveraging all of its flights, including cargo-only and those carrying passengers, to transport millions of vaccines to destinations throughout our network, including Honolulu, Guam and Saipan – the first of any carrier to do so.

Why we fly

By The Hub team, November 27, 2020

In October 2019, we launched a first-of-its-kind airline miles donation platform, Miles on a Mission. In the inaugural year, MileagePlus members donated over 70 million miles, with United matching over 20 million miles, to 51 organizations. These miles have allowed for these organizations to do important, life-changing, life-saving work in the communities we serve around the globe.
