Pilots use a phonetic alphabet to ensure that there is no confusion when referring to various aircraft, airports, runways and gates. Each number and letter has a specific word associated with it so even if, for example, the letters 'B' and 'Z' sound a bit similar, the words 'Bravo' and 'Zulu' are distinct.
