United Reports August 2018 Operational Performance

CHICAGO, Sept. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines (UAL) today reported August 2018 operational results.

UAL's August 2018 consolidated traffic (revenue passenger miles) increased 7.8 percent and consolidated capacity (available seat miles) increased 5.4 percent versus August 2017. UAL's August 2018 consolidated load factor increased 2.0 points compared to August 2017.

August Highlights

  • Announced several new international routes including year-round nonstop service between Washington Dulles and Tel Aviv, daily, year-round service between San Francisco and Amsterdam, and nonstop seasonal summer service between Newark/New York and Naples, Italy and Newark/New York and Prague, all subject to government approval.
  • Finished in the top-tier among largest competitors in on-time departure and completion performance.
  • As part of a previously announced $8 million commitment, announced a $1 million grant to the San Francisco Immigrant Legal & Education Network.
  • United's MileagePlus loyalty program awarded Favorite Frequent-Flyer program at the annual Trazee Awards.
  • Debuted United Corporate Preferred, the industry's newest corporate travel program designed to offer top travel benefits to the airline's most loyal business customers.

United Airlines Becomes First U.S. Carrier to Make COVID-19 Tests Available to Customers

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 24, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines today became the first U.S. airline to launch a COVID-19 pilot testing program for travelers that could make it easier for them to manage quarantine requirements and entry conditions of popular destinations around the world. Starting on October 15, customers traveling on United from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Hawaii will have the option to take a rapid test at the airport or a self-collected, mail-in test ahead of their trip.

United Airlines Selected to be Official Airline of the Commission on Presidential Debates

CHICAGO, Sept. 22, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) has selected United Airlines as the official airline for the 2020 Presidential and Vice Presidential Debates. United will fly 65 CPD staff and crew to each of the four debates being sponsored and produced by the Commission, starting with the first Presidential debate on Sept. 29 at the Samson Pavilion at Case Western Reserve University, on the main campus of Cleveland Clinic. Cleveland Clinic is serving as Health Security Advisor to the Commission on Presidential Debates, and earlier this year, United partnered with Cleveland Clinic to guide the airline's health and safety protocols. United Adds Antimicrobial Spray to Already Extensive Cabin-Cleaning Measures

United Airlines Permanently Eliminates Change Fees

The carrier announced today that it is permanently getting rid of change fees on all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S., effective immediately. And starting on January 1, 2021, any United customer can fly standby for free on a flight departing the day of their travel regardless of the type of ticket or class of service, a first among U.S. carriers, while MileagePlus Premier members can confirm a seat on a different flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket if a seat in the same ticket fare class is available.

United Airlines Doubles Service Between San Francisco and Shanghai

CHICAGO, Aug. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines today announced it will increase service to China from two to four weekly flights between San Francisco and Shanghai's Pudong International Airport via Seoul's Incheon International Airport. Beginning Sept.4, 2020, United will operate four weekly flights with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from San Francisco to Shanghai on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
