As we debated where our family should travel during our Christmas holiday, we came to the conclusion that we couldn't go wrong by visiting my parents in St. George, Utah. This city is an outdoor paradise year-round with an abundance of outdoor activities. From hiking up Red Mountain and visiting Snow Canyon State Park to playing a round at one of the many world-class golf courses in the area, southern Utah is full of adventure and breathtaking scenery.

DC Taylor and his family in Snow Canyon State Park

The day after Christmas, my family including my brother, sister and their spouses, made our way to Snow Canyon State Park. We had been there before, but I don't think you can ever get enough of its beauty. The park features multiple canyons carved from the red Navajo sandstone, offering stunning red rock vistas and ancient lava flows. There are many trails to choose from, depending on the level of difficulty you'd like to take on, but in my opinion you can't go wrong with any of them. All the trails offer stunning views of the park. On one of the trails we came across snow-topped cacti, in addition to unique petroglyphs along the rocks of the canyon. Petroglyphs are rock carvings created by natives of the area in order to share their story and communicate with others. These petroglyphs can sometimes be difficult to find, but once you do, you can discover hours of interesting engravings. Many times these petroglyphs are hidden in dark crevices, so the intricate details of the carving can only be seen by using your cellphone's flashlight or another source of light.

On New Year's Day, we decided to take on Red Mountain, which is a 2.5-hour hike straight up. The climb up is definitely worth it, with a 360-degree view of St. George at the top. With picturesque views everywhere you turned, it was a perfect way to ring in the New Year. However, getting back down proved to be a new adventure. Some areas were more challenging, while descending, but we all made it down safely.

Overall, it was a fantastic week with my family. Southern Utah is beautiful and such a great place to go on vacation. I would highly recommend this trip to all of my colleagues. And thanks to United, I have opportunities like these to spend precious, as well as adventurous, times with my family.

United joins UNICEF COVAX initiative

By The Hub team, February 19, 2021

This week, we were honored to become the first U.S. airline to join the UNICEF Humanitarian Airfreight Initiative to combat the COVID-19 pandemic by transporting the vaccine and other critically needed supplies to underserved areas of the globe.

"We are committed to helping the global community in any way we can, and we all must work together to do our part to bring this health and humanitarian crisis to an end," said Director of Cargo Specialty Products Manu Jacobs.

We will leverage our expertise to transport these critical pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments around the world safely, efficiently and expediently. We are proud to partner with the United Nations to support this global effort and provide equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.
