What our flight attendants really know about you

In June, we began to issue iPhone 6 Plus devices to our flight attendants, enabling them to deliver more personalized customer service.

Recognizing customers who celebrate important milestones, particularly our most frequent flyers, is an important part of being a flyer-friendly airline. Over the years, customers and flight attendants have appreciated this practice.

With their devices, flight attendants have access to limited customer information -- information that United previously provided on paper.

When flight attendants access a seat map of a flight they are working, they see:

  • The first and last name of a customer in a specific seat
  • That customer's MileagePlus Premier status level
  • If that customer celebrated a birthday the day before the flight, has a birthday the day of the flight or is celebrating a birthday the next day
  • If the customer has reached a MileagePlus membership anniversary
  • If the customer reached the next premier status level or achieved million miler status on that flight
  • The customer's current flight itinerary, limited to details of the flight.

Flight attendants do not have access to a customer's date of birth, social security number, telephone number, email address or other highly personal information, including information that the customer may have provided while booking the ticket.

United Makes it Easier for Customers to Find and Use Travel Credits

CHICAGO, Sept. 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- United today announced it is giving customers even more flexibility when they need to rebook their travel by helping them to find and use their travel credits. United is the only airline to make it easy for customers to use their credits by automatically displaying them as a payment option during the checkout process. This functionality will be available for MileagePlus® members first and the airline is working to roll it out to all customers in the near future. Also, beginning next week, United will be the first to let customers use their travel credits for extra legroom seats and to pre-pay for checked baggage.

When used together across the fuel lifecycle, the Alder technologies, coupled with Honeywell's Ecofining™ process, could have the ability to produce a carbon-negative fuel at spec with today's jet fuel. The goal of the technologies is to produce fuel that is a 100% drop-in replacement for petroleum jet fuel.
